The Houston and Brown families have been at war since Bobbi Kristina Brown was hospitalized on Jan. 31, but one thing they won’t have to argue over is where the 22-year-old’s money will go now that she’s gone. Whitney Houston planned out exactly what would happen to her $20 million, should something happen to Bobbi, who she left the entire fortune to when she died in 2012.
A copy of Whitney’s will, obtained by TMZ, reveals that Bobbi received 1/10 of the $20 million estate when she turned 21 in 2014. Sadly, she died at just 22, years before she was set to receive 1/6 of the balance, which would have happened when she was 25. So, technically, Bobbi didn’t own 9/10 of the estate at the time of her death.
But the “I Will Always Love You” singer made a special note in the will about where the money should go if anything happened to Bobbi, and designated her mom, Cissy Houston, and brothers, Michael and Gary, as the inheritors. Bobby Brown was also included, but since he was referred to as “my husband” in the document, clearly written before the pair’s divorce in 2007, he legally may not be able to receive his cut.
Bobbi was found unconscious in her bathtub on Jan. 31, and remained in a medically-induced coma for seven months before finally passing on July 26, surrounded by the Houston family. An initial autopsy was done on the body on July 27, but was inconclusive regarding what happened to her on that fateful winter night.
“The initial portion of the autopsy has been completed,” the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office said in a statement. “The autopsy does not show an obvious underlying cause of death and no significant injuries were noted. No previously unknown medical conditions that could have contributed to death were identified.” Additional testing will now be done to see if a cause can be uncovered.
As investigators continue to try and find out what happened, the death is reportedly being considered a homicide, with Bobbi’s boyfriend, Nick Gordon, as a person of interest. On July 12, he was served with a $10 million lawsuit for allegedly hitting Bobbi Kristina, as well as for controlling her finances while she was in the coma.
Our thoughts continue to remain with Bobbi’s family and friends during this difficult time.
