Social Security Administration is warning that schemers are impersonating government agents and stealing people’s benefits.
In a blog post Wednesday, the Social Security Administration agency’s Office of the Inspector General said people have been receiving calls from a number with a 323 area code.
“The caller claims to be an [agency] employee, and in some instances, tells the victim that they are due a 1.7% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) increase of their Social Security benefits,” the post reads.
